But I'm back, sorta. I think I'm gonna start clearing my work-in-progress stuff and posting newer stuff soon. But rusty Hiyas is rusty and my drawing muse will be hard to coax into providing inspiration. Here's hoping I get to draw more stuff before the holidays kick in.

Currently working out logo studies for something a couple of guys and I are cooking up. Just coming up with a name took a couple of hours of brainstorming on my part before the actual discussion with the rest of the guys (and that took a little more than a couple of hours). So now I'm tasked with coming up with the logo and website design.

With almost a year of not designing things for a living, I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous. My design skills are mucho rusty, in my opinion. O_o So I spent the greater part of today website-hopping and looking for design inspiration. I've got a couple of ideas after the initial discussion, but they seem kinda stale in my head. Looking at other designers' works is sorta not helping, in the sense that I'm getting even more nervous. I want my design to be effective and good enough for whatever confidence my partners-in-crime have in me to be justified.

*sigh* I really hate this kind of pressure, even when it's self-inflicted.

--

Addendum: Hey, design people reading my blog! Gimme more links for design inspiration!

Also: Something I happened upon while reading design blogs HEE!
Do you guys know anyone looking for a freelance graphic designer/web designer/illustrator/colorist? I'm currently looking for freelance gigs as I'm half-convinced a 9-5 job kills my will to live (or to create art, same banana) faster than you could say "creative block."

My online portfolio can be viewed here.

...but really drained. feels like i'm almost always on the verge of burning out and breaking down.
So apparently my (as of today) former boss Dean's new book is available during the Book Fair. The collection is available in two editions: book paper (P500+) and newsprint (P200+). Check out the Anvil Publishing booth and buy a copy!

As for me, I'll probably skip the Book Fair, as funds are scarce and I won't be able to resist the temptation of buying with so many books around. Last year, I blew off my money on Nick Bantock's Griffin and Sabine trilogy. Worth it, but I was left scrimping till the next payday.

* * *

The Kite of Stars and Other Stories will be formally launched on September 29, 2007 (Saturday) at 4PM. The venue is Bestsellers at the top level of Robinson's Galleria. Dean said (after jokingly - I think! - threatening the Kestrel folk that they'll lose their jobs if they don't go) that there's going to be some food, so yay!

* * *

Book wish list (Or, What I would have hunted for/bought, if I was going to the Book Fair and had wads of cash)

- Nick Bantock's Morning Star trilogy (to complete the darn thing)
- Fables TPBs
- Graphic design, animation, illustration books
- Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things
- League of Extraordinary Gentlemen TPBs
- Alan Moore's Top Ten Book 2 (Joe Pi!!!!)
- Runaways TPBs

So I've gone and quit my job. After months of whining about my job, I  finally made the step to actually hand them my letter of resignation. (Yes, I procrastinate. A lot.) I'm facing impending doom unemployment and poverty by September. Trying to get some freelancing gigs so I won't be completely broke come next month.

This journal entry's basically a plea for a few graphic design/web design/illustration/coloring projects that you guys can toss my way.

My resume, if you need it can be downloaded from this link and my online portfolio can be viewed here.
  • Listening to: Metric - Dead Disco
I've been saddled with most of the website projects our company is handling right now. There are five designers in our company (it's a small graphic design firm), and I'm the only one who knows how to make websites. Out of the six ongoing web projects, I'm handling five. :faint: Good thing one is almost done (considering it started December 2006) and two others are sort-of on hold (one is our portfolio site and the other is for a non-responsive client). That leaves me with two active ones, but unfortunately both are on  tight and overlapping schedules.

It doesn't help that my boss likes to throw other (non-website) projects in my lap since my deadlines for the web stuff don't get moved to a later date. I've been requesting for them to get another designer who also knows how to make sites, but they still haven't found anyone suitable. I'm quickly burning out, and I have a feeling I won't be able to handle another month of this kind of workload.

I want to quit and look for another job but I know I'd feel guilty afterwards if I leave them in the middle of the projects with no one else to handle the web projects. O_o And I still don't know what kind of work I want to do afterwards if I do resign. o_O AAAAARGH!
[EDIT: now with little commentaries in italics!]

krs: wow
krs: thats the first sentence that could seriously be hers in this entire conversation
me: well apparently you don't know me that well, do you?
krs: i know what you sound like while chatting
me: no, you don't

After this, I post the conversation here (and on LJ) and give her the links. She then tells me to take this journal entry down because it was completely unedited, with all the names mentioned. I conceded to her point about the names and took them out.

But obviously I'm not deleting this entry. :evillaugh:

kitsuneko is stressed.
kitsuneko does not want to go to work (but does anyway. she is weird like that.)
kitsuneko wants to tear her hair out and disappear for awhile.

kitsuneko is writing in the third person and doesn't really know why.

It's a wonderful thing to discover a new band to listen to. I'm in a downloading frenzy right now (hurray for fast DSL connection!) while the workload's in a slump. This light workload is a good thing because I'm bracing myself for the three-month insanity that is layouting this game guide for a popular MMORPG. Must savor this last bit of freedom.

[EDIT @ 06|22|06, 5pm-ish
I spoke too soon >_< That last bit of freedom? GONE. I have website studies and a panel to design for the next three working days. And I'm supposed to get materials for that game guide tomorrow. SO dead.]
